Around the end of the 19th century, a steadily growing network of railroad lines emerged in Europe. This way, people could travel to European cities and admire the buildings influenced by historicism and art nouveau.
In Free Ride you will take over the construction of these railroad lines. Connect the cities of Europe and take the passengers to the desired cities. You can use your own and the nationalized railroad lines for free. However, if you want to travel on other players' railroads, you must pay them money to nationalize their routes for everyone.
Choose itineraries from an open display and complete them to earn victory points at the end of the game. The goal of Free Ride is to visit as many different cities in Europe as possible. Freie Fahrt also offers a challenging solo game!
The new ideas in Free Ride
You build railroads between cities. There are three different railroad lines: your own, the lines built by your fellow players, and nationalized lines. On your own or nationalized lines you can drive free of charge. If you want to drive on other players' lines, you have to pay them 1 coin to nationalize their lines. From then on, everyone can use them free of charge. The number of coins is limited, so you have to choose between building your own tracks and nationalizing the tracks of your fellow players.
During the game you can choose between 6 travel routes in the display. Each itinerary consists of 3 city cards and gives you two different options. You take 2 of the 3 city cards without changing their order, while you remove the remaining third city card of the itinerary and put it back in the box. You may not reverse the itinerary or choose the top and bottom cards.
Free travel is always about these decisions: Do you build more railroads or do you take the train? Do you wait for better routes in the display or do you snatch the best routes from the others?
