Chicago, 15 February 1929: On a cold winter's day, Hattie May, a good friend of the Investigator, shows up at his detective agency. Her beloved lapdog is to be killed later that day and she asks the Investigator to help her get him out of the Chicago Police Department in time beforehand. Sounds like a solvable task, doesn't it?
Mask of Desire
New York, September 1932. The Investigator is invited with his close friends Anna Konrad and Lucas Renston to a party given by a wealthy and disreputable lady of high society. Anna is not all there because the next day she is to audition for a famous jazz orchestra to which she has applied. What is the connection between the audition and a mysterious package that arrives the next day? And why do so many people seem to be interested in the contents of the package?
