So make room on your shelf for a powerful new mechanical model that has just been added to the Ugears automotive collection. Introducing the Cobra Drift race car, a two-seat convertible with sleek lines inspired by possibly the most famous sports car of all time: the Shelby Cobra 427. Produced between 1965 and 1967, the Cobra 427 was equipped with a 7.0-liter 450-510 horsepower engine, accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in little more than 4 seconds, and had a top speed of 260 mph.

With its powerful spring drive, the Cobra Drift race car from Ugears has more horsepower under the hood than any other mechanical wooden model we know. The model winds up with the help of a key under the chassis. Before you wind up your 3D wooden Cobra Drift race car model, move the air filter that extends from the hood to the windshield and turn the switch in front of the passenger seat to the locked position (parallel to the door). Then turn the key under the car. After 6 to 6.5 turns, the spring is fully wound and you're ready to go - hum, hum, hum - your race car is ready to roar! Move the gearshift between the driver and passenger seats to the desired position (reverse, idle, forward). To start the model, place it on a flat surface, push the air filter forward and your Cobra will drift off at full throttle (the wheels must be turned in a sideways direction when starting), drive in circles or jet along the course in a straight line.

For us, this 3D puzzle / DIY model is a beauty, with wide tires, curved shapes (thanks to the parts precisely pre-cut with laser in 1 mm thick plywood), its wide grille and its open convertible design. The movable parts of the car made of wood include the rotating front wheels, the opening doors, as well as the hood and trunk lid, which can be opened. Instead of a rubber band motor, we used a powerful spring mechanism to give this race car its power and extend the life of the model. Thanks to the locking mechanism, you don't have to hold the key when winding up - with each turn, the potential energy is stored, without any losses, until the strong spring inside is fully tensioned. To put the model in drift mode, turn the front wheels completely in one direction or the other. Then place it on a smooth surface (such as tile) and your model will drift sideways (ideally, depending on the surface and the angle of rotation of the wheels, it should make a half to one full turn before continuing). If the wheels are set to straight position, the model will travel a considerable distance - 8 meters or more! If you turn the wheels in less, or set the race car on a less smooth surface, your Cobra Drift will perform two or three full circular motions.
