As a noble of the mighty Majapahti Empire, a maritime Indonesian kingdom, you have set sail on behalf of your king in search of new peoples to trade with. Together with your fellow nobles, you have recently arrived on the distant island of Buru. Win the favour of the inhabitants and eventually that of your king!

Over five turns, you use secret bids to deploy your explorers in four different regions of the island. This will allow you to collect resources, recruit islanders, complete tasks and praise the local spiritual beings.

You have five explorers in each of the levels 1 to 5. In each round, you bid with all but one of your explorers in the regions of the island. No matter how many you send to a region, you may only perform one action there at a time.

In the forest, you can get resources such as clay, palm trees and ebony. You need these to praise the spirits of Buru.

On the coast, you can recruit islanders and add them to your tableau. The best actions in this region will let you recruit multiple islanders and go through the row in each combination.

The abilities of your islanders are triggered in the village. You can chain some of them together to form an engine.

At the Sacred Lake, you will praise the water spirit Banyu, the mountain spirit Gunung and Manuk, the spirit of the ancestors. This will earn you the appreciation of the islanders in the form of victory points. You can also visit the elders here. They will give you personal goals to pursue.
