During World War II, the U.S. Marines spearheaded the American response to the advance of the Japanese Empire in the Pacific.
The technologically superior U.S. forces pushed back Japanese expansion through many amphibious assaults, among other things. The USMC bore the brunt of the fighting, which culminated in American victory.
